If I was led by God to love God, step by step, as it seemed, if I accept that the beauty and the rapture were real and true, then the rest of it was God's will too and that is cause for bitterness

magandang valedictory speech
baka maka inspire sa inyong lahat! maganda talaga ung
message! kaya basahin mo na!Ü
*********************************************************************
akong dalang Transcript of Record.
Salle University.
“Summa Cum Laude”, “Best Thesis Award” at “Leadership
Award.”
unibersidad na nagbigay ng “Hung on and managed to
graduate despite nearly getting kicked-out during his
academic stay” award.
Maaaring isang malaking kagaguhan ang konseptong ito
para sa karamihan. Bakit mo pararangalan ang isang
estudyanteng bulakbol, bobo, tamad o iresponsable?
mag-aral, nandyan yung iisipin mo “Ano pa kayang
trabaho ang makukuha ko? Call center na naman o
clerical?
sinasabi natin?
Kapag ang isang estudyante ay bumabagsak sa
unibersidad, nandiyan yung tatawanan niya lang yan. O
di kaya naman, ipagmamalaki niya pang “TAKE 5 NA
KO!!!” o “Pare, magpi-PhD na ako sa
Anmath3/Calculus/etc.”
Grades are everything.
academically good, wala kang patutunguhan.
nitong graduation? Ayoko nang puntahan yung pwedeng
mangyayari sa mga Cum Laude. Baduy. Alam mo naming me
magandang kumpanya. Madami pang pwedeng mangyari.
Huwag kayong mawalan ng pag-asa. Kung nung college,
nagtiyaga kayo e…ba’t titigilan niyo yung pagti-tiyaga
ngayon?
mo, kaya mo ring abutin yung naabot nila. Na hindi ka
bobo, kundi tinamad ka lang.
Baka sabihin ninyo, drowing lang ako.
I’ve been on both sides. Naranasan ko na ring
lumagpak, at muntikan na din akong masipa. Naranasan
Eto.
Nagtrabaho muna ng konti, tapos aral ulit. Kuha ng
Masteral sa kurso ko. Hindi para sa trabaho o kung ano
man.
This is a rebellion. I raise my middle finger to every
professor, over-achiever, naysayer and detractor that
told me that I can’t make it. I raise my middle finger
to every valedictory or graduation speech that only
gratifies the university, those who were achievers in
school or those who gratify the country when it’s
supposed to be the graduate’s moment of glory. You are
supposed to acknowledge EVERYONE. Even those who
failed many times.
niyo rin to. Imposibleng hindi.

overload
I need a freaking vacation... Seriously...
TO DO LIST:
 1. Read and outline the assigned reading (300++ pages!) materials for debate.
 2. Plan an activity for the exchange students.
 3. Inquire about the agenda for next week's Akbayan youth meeting.
 4. Train for JPES (w/c was moved to next week... our finals week, mind you.    Thank you so much Ateneo Economics Association for making our life harder =p)
 5. Fix the schedule of the tutorials that I organized for my batchmates.
 6. Finish the professor's profiles project of the batch assembly
 7. Check the recent developments about the modularization program of the    Accounting Department.
 8. Finish my JPRIZAL papers and memorize my busorga and comamrt reports.
 9. Study for the Finals (busorga, oblicon, intphil, mathan2)
 10. Break in new soccer shoes for upcoming LSAL
 11. Get new sponsors for the YEC
 12. Finish the specs for the term-end report
 13. Adjust next term's schedule and pay tuition fees
 14. Find a replacement commentator for Sept. 5
 15. Get my passport and leave the country
*sigh* I feel so drained... even a box of chocolate didn't help... Some of my friends were telling me that I am spreading myself too thinly over my 8 or so orgs..
Lord, give me enough strength to fulfill my obligations.

more comments
will I let the issue die without presenting my burden of proof nor my clash or my opposing arguments? Not a chance dearest... Not a chance...
From my readings, I was able to gather information that there were two studies made in the year 1990(specifically by two guys named Galbraith and Pappas)that supported the idea of providing a suitable eduactional environment/climate for the students to facilitate effective learning. Specifically, Galbraith (1989, 1990) has suggested that the educational climate consists of both the physical environment and the psychological or emotional climate. While Pappas (1990), on the other hand, was the one who laid out the four key elements of what he calls the psychological environment, including spatial behavior, physical characteristics (light, temperature, noise, decor, and furniture arrangements), the role of tradition, and the affective experience (how a person anticipates and responds to a learning setting).
The relevance of the information above is this (let's do a little perspective check here): DLSU, as we all know, is in Metro Manila. In a recent publication of the World Bank (number WTP 380), the said area exceeds national standards of air quality, where the TSP or Total Suspended Particle concentrations are five times higher than the standards set by the World Health Organization Air Quality Guidlines. If I may paraphrase the Inquirer, Taft Avenue along with EDSA and Rizal Avenue are considered air quality 'hot spots' - meaning TSP in the said areas are high enough for the DENR to get concerned and closely monitor them. Higher TSP= high pollution/more heat trapped by the air. These conditions are not really conducive for learning are they? Now, how in makai can this problem be solved? Let's state the obvious answer: AIR CONDITIONING. Now I don't need to say what actually prompted me to go out of my way, to deviate from my already busy schedule, just to write this little piece down... It's obvious, isn't it?
Facts are facts.
Other tidbits (that were researched by yours truly) that, IN MY OPINION, are as interesting as the ones stated above:
Five years ago, DLSU was ranked 76 in Asiaweek's Best Universities of 1999. UP was at 32, UST at 78 and ADMU at 71. But that was five years ago...
The recent Asiaweek rankings showed these results:
    Academic reputation: UP- 18 * ADMU-58 *DLSU-56
    Student Selectivity: U-44 * A-65 * D- 67
    Faculty Resources: U-61* A-71 * D-67
    Research: U-60 * A-63 * D-58
    Ranking by citations in int'l journals: U-68 * A-74 * D-70
    OVERALL RANKING: UP- 48 * ADMU-72 * DLSU-71
Based on these facts, I believe no one has a damn right to insult DLSU (until new rankings come out and the univ. finds itself bested by the 'rival' school). Well for those who dare to question the validity of Asiaweek's rankings here is a little POI: The Asiaweek rankings reflect "truly valuable and trustworthy research done with profound investigation and solid critical analysis". Or if you want to see the results with your own eyes go ahead and visit their site.
Argue with facts... Even HS debaters know that...
Oh.. Before I end this particular entry let me comment about DLSZ's current debate team: Zobel's debate team sucks because they don't have proper training and they don't have anyone who will train them. Manner and method can be acquired. Some people may naturally have it but there are some who don't. That doesn't mean that the people who doesn't have proper manner (or 'style' as some people would call it) can't learn and best those people who already have them (ex. Leloy of ADS).... Ngayon may JPES debate competition ako this weekend... hmm... If my speaker scores suck or if my team doesn't break, God knows I may concur to the idea that my friend can actually bluff those 'kids' (given that he doesn't know anything about the subject matter).
Ibabalik ko lamang ang mga katagang ito: No one messes with the things I am associated with and gets away with it. Patrick learned that the hard way. I love my school and if you're going to start hurling insults without facts and without proper substantiation... think fast and think hard... coz this girl won't forgive you... kung masama siguro araw ko gumawa pa ako ng 7 minute structured PM/LO speech... Oh and another thing... last time i checked this IS my blog and I am FREE to express myself here. So, if I wanted to express my disgust with your baseless arguments I can do so here in MY blog. I refuse to just exact a mere comment without explaining its basis. Besides, my comments are too long to be placed inside a comment box. And yes, the law does not protect the stupid... ignorantia legis neminem excusat - remove 'legis' from the given maxim of the law and it may be translated to "ignorance excuses no one"

The Office of Student Activities (OSA) hosted the graduation of the first batch of student participants of the Ateneo Leadership Empowerment and Development (LEaD!) Program last March14, 2003 at the Colayco Multi-Purpose Hall. The event was a milestone for the program as it marked the end of the two- year intensive formation program that the LEaD!ers underwent.
blah... blah... blah... blah... (here comes the important part..)
Patrick Echevarria (II-BS Physics CE) gave the valedictory speech for the batch afterwards.
hehe... iba talaga pagnasobrahan sa kape... Anyway, here is an excerpt from an article in the Inquirer
Joseph Patrick D. Echevarria
In his own words: "May tumawag na sa aking 'kalog.' Siguro nga kalog ako. May tumawag na rin sa aking 'seryoso.' Siguro nga seryoso ako. Mukha atang 'seryosong-kalog' ako."
Patrick balances a tough course (BS Physics and Computer Engineering) at the Ateneo de Manila University with his work with many student organizations, plus he teaches and is currently involved in creating a Tutoring Database, forming a Physics Reading Group, and giving tutorials in math and science to the son of the school librarian. Whew! |
|
Patrick has many ways to deal with stress: "Sleeping is very effective! Problems always seem easier in the morning after a good night's rest. Doing push-ups is also a good outlet for stress. But if all else fails, I pray and let God take care of it."
He tries to learn the subject well, to the extent that he is able to teach it. Living alone in the dorm has allowed him a certain level of independence, and now, he does not follow a strict schedule.
Hard work has certainly paid off for this honor student. But at the same time, he is also trying to find his mission.
"I want a lot of things. But I don't know what God will ask me to do. In the meantime, I'm preparing as hard as I can."
Blog owner's note: I spent a few minutes tracking down the URL of his pic. Thank goodness I was able to figure out how to link the pic back here and set-up tables to arrange the article... Iba na talaga pag gusto mo talaga gawin ano?
another note: The first part was quoted from the president's report of ADMU and the article about pat was extracted from the Inquirer website, the same article may also be found in the features section of the said newspaper dated 12-19-2003.

Comments from a certain forum thread:
4 La Sallians in the 2003 TEN OUTSTANDING COLLEGE STUDENTS OF THE PHILIPPINES.
No Ateneans.
Another proof why La Sallians are the BEST and the BRIGHTEST in the Philippines.
True La Sallians rely on solid facts and achievements.
Most Ateneans rely on their biased opinions.
Question: bat walang atenista??
Reply: Tinatanong pa ba yan? Talo pa nga natin ang UP eh!

wha??
First things first, I have to greet myself... Belated happy 1st Rachelle! There! with that over with let me proceed with what I have to say.... which I think is practically nothing or something that should be placed in my other blog... shucks. I am spewing nonsense here. Oh well...
Hmm... Well, there is one thing I should mention here is that I was quite amazed how liberal pat is (even though he is still every bit of a gentleman). We had a long but relatively short conversation when he came back to his condo after a trip to Sierra Madre. Haha. It was fun to talk to him again about a myriad of topics, from risks, to Iraq, to SONA, to indigenous tribes, to the marginalized, to overpopulation, to contraceptives, to condoms, to sex, to phallic symbols, to upo, to ampalaya... hehe.. labo namin mag-usap... but I assure you all of those topics were discussed with a scientific and open (but sometimes green) mind. Although we had veered off the scientific notion of some of the topics listed above it was really interesting, to say the least (like practicing on ping-pong balls in a glass of water Ü what's the practice for? it is for us to know and for you to find out. hehehe. another interesting part would be about the correlation between the size of one's hand and one's head *giggle* and ampalaya topped with grated cheese Ü hehe). Let's just say that before our conversation ended we were highly similar to the lightbulbs above us (I would later expand this in my other blog) ...*sigh* Sometimes I wish we could skip the sleeping process so we could go on talking until the break of dawn but as mother nature would have it both us were highly concerned that we both won't be able to get enough shut eye to keep ourselves healthy... ugh! which reminds me to get some sleep right now... hmm.. i guess that's it for now!
Wishing his hands were intertwined with mine!

umgangssprachlich
I couldn't sleep at all, a fact that baffles me a lot especially after going through a grueling day. Since its technically Aug 1, 2004 I would have to remind myself that everything I would be writing down would be about the events that had transpired yesterday July 31.
Well, to start off, I had a JPES (Junior Philippine Economics Society) training from 8 am until 12 noon. The only things I can remember without looking at my notes are the pointers Brian gave for effective argumentation and rebuttals. Here's a brief outline of what I can recall ( just in case I lost the paper where I wrote it and then forget about it):
ARGUMENTATION
- process vs. end tangible consequences
It would be more effective if you would immediately state the tangible consequences. This would not only give more impact/weight to your argument but it would force you to tackle the process involved. Not only that, it actually avoids rambling.
- starting out strong
It is better to announce your handle then give the first premise; go straight to the point and give the problem.
- preemption
It is important for you to build the argument from possible/obvious rebuttals without being defensive. It should be your aim to remove the usual misinterpretations inherent in your argument. Do say that it may not be able to solve the problem 100% but it would be an improvement in the status quo.
REBUTTAL
- Recast the opposing side's argument into one sentence before actually rebutting. condensing their arguments would be a more efficient manner to reiterate their contentions rather than spending 2-3 mins trying to say what they have said.
- Create a criteria. if the debate, for example, is that A brings harm to B, it is your task to ask two questions. One would be " what does it take to harm B?" and the other would be "does A lead to the sitch or thing that would harm B?"
With that duly noted, I shall go on with the story. Now we had the quarterfinals and semifinals today from 1 pm to 6pm. The motion for the former was that THBT Uncle Sam pulled out too fast and too early. On the other hand for the semis we had THW institute a Philippine Nat'l Population policy. I shall not delve into the details of the debate but all I can say was that when we entered the quarters we were the 3rd out of eight and at the semis we were at 2nd out of of four. *sigh* I think we could have done better.
Anyway, I just wanted to say that I have established a friendship with one of my opponents in the second round of the eliminations. The results of the semis caused us to see commonalities in our lives which we have discussed in hushed whispers in the chapel and in Mcdo. Our exchange of opinions, insights and experiences actually brightened an otherwise would have been a dismal mood. One of the things we have discussed is about my team. Ria said that our team was evidently really bonded together and when I said that we only knew each other just this term she expressed her shock. It was her contention that you only see this type of closeness in people who have been friends for a long time. When she said that, I appreciated my teammates even more. Hehe. We're a crazy bunch but we can get things done. Nuff said.
Backtracking a bit, when Ria and I were in the chapel my teammate Jomar approached me so he could have a private word with him. I was quite touched when he thanked me (and Aikee) for teaching him a lot of stuff not only in debate but in how to be a better student. He said that he also wanted to thank us for taking him in especially when he clearly was the rookie amongst us three and for letting him be close to us even when we already have an established platonic relationship(coz like many other people they mistake the supposed closeness -hmm... aikee close ba tayo?- as something that was attained through the passage of time.) He said a lot of things one of them is that he was glad we were his teammates and all I was able to say in serious response was that it was very sweet of him to say so (serious response because I spent most of my time listening, waving my hands in a shooing motion in front of my face and saying wala naman un eh." I was quite touched but my mind was partially wandering off that was why I wasn't able to give more things to disprove the uber positive view of us.
hmm. my eyes are starting to droop and that is a sure sign that I am ready to hit the sack soon. but let me say this advance enrollment rocks! i got a decent schedule and if rumors are true i would have the best prof for micrec and macrec.
keeping fingers crossed!!!
ooh! I forgot, I had a pretty long discussion with pat last thursday evening but that was after (our first) misunderstanding earlier that day.
